Why is private energy consumption rising (almost) everywhere, despite considerable efforts to the opposite? Do people in Norway and elsewhere have to abandon their little pleasures in order to save the world? Can a warm shower every day really be a sin? Is the trip to the cottage which only can be reached by car morally defendable? When will I be allowed to throw out my old sofa and buy a new one?
These are some of the questions which inspired our ongoing (2007-2010) research project “Paradoxes of Design. Aesthetication as barrier to sustainable consumption”.
